Meet The Team
Creative Director & Executive Producer: Lee McCabe
At the helm of Kaizen 1 Pictures is Lee McCabe - an award winning producer and director, who won the SAFTA for Best Current Affairs Program in 2017. Lee carved his niche as a seasoned investigative journo and documentary filmmaker during his tenure at Special Assignment on SABC and is currently the Show producer of Week in One on Enca ( a current Affairs program that features the top news highlights and interviews on Enca, as well as serving as regular contributor to the channel. The Golden Horn was awarded for an investigative documentary called Spieners, which he wrote and directed along with ( CNN African Journalist of the year) producer, Lindiwe Mpanza. It told the vivid stories of people involved in the subculture of stealing cars, called “Spieners”, which is considered a normal nine to five in certain communities in Johannesburg South. Lee also has a passion for fiction as a genre and co-wrote and produced a 13 part telenovela drama series called Loxion Lyric for SABC 1.It told the story of a group of township youngsters and the hard lessons they learn in becoming successful musicians in South Africa. Sibusiso Dlamini - Writer/Director/Cameras
Sibusiso Mngomezulu says, “My home is Soweto, but my roots are in Kwazulu Natal'' -This cameraman turned director possesses an insatiable passion for storytelling and directing. Sibu is a product a learnership in Audio & Visual Production at Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking where he was awarded the Best Director at the prestigious Bafundi Film Festival and has worked on various productions. His most recent work as a director was on the set of a multinational drama called Working Wives, a Zimbabwean/South Africa 12-episode drama series. He also directed a music video for the prestigious Red Bull Vodacom Turn Up music initiative that is currently being broadcasted on all the music channels in the country.
Phindile Lele Mthethwa - Writer,Photographer &Videographer
My love for the creative world began in high school; I knew from that moment that I wanted to be more than just the actress on stage but the eyes behind the magic. From that moment on I trained myself in photography until I attended AFDA in 2017 where I minored in Editing and Directing, choosing to major in Writing and Costume, Makeup, and Styling in the second year of my 3-year degree. Since my second year at AFDA, I have been working for Kaizen 1 Pictures as an edit and cine intern. In my final year as a student, I was head of the wardrobe for two productions titled Just Sophie and Letlapa, which screened in November 2019 at Cinema Nouveau. Recent Projects include videography and photography for the Miss Teen Universe South Africa pageant. I have also written and directed my first short film titled Seven Stages and Public Relations work for a variety of social media pages.
Nequita Abreu- Line Producer
Nequita Abreu is currently a line producer at MiclnGrace Studios. In 2007 she studied Journalism at Damelin and graduated in 2010. She’s worked for several companies in the industry and worked her way up. Started her career life as a producer, production manager and production co-ordinator at nine nine productions. Worked at the Market beautiful agency then worked her way up to Afro pulse media in 2018 before working as a line producer. What Nequita revealed about her love for producing, ‘I actually studied Journalism and I was looking for a job was interviewed at a production house.The director was facing many challenges and I was thrown into the deep end, however i enjoyed finding a solution for problems and working with numbers , different creatives.’She also line produced a telenovela series for SABC 1 called Ngempela which aired in 2014.
